Maddie and Ben planned a timeless Cleveland wedding day that balanced tradition, elegance, and relaxed fun — set against some of the city’s most iconic locations.
The day began at the Cleveland Downtown Marriott, where both Maddie and Ben got ready surrounded by their immediate families and wedding party. Having both sides prepare in the same hotel made the morning feel calm, connected, and full of anticipation. Maddie’s room was filled with laughter and sweet in-between moments, final touches of makeup, hugs with family, and quiet pauses before the day truly began in a room overlooking the hustle and bustle of downtown on the lakefront. Ben and his groomsmen shared their own mix of excitement and ease, enjoying time together before heading to the ceremony.
From the hotel, the day moved to St. John Cantius Catholic Church, where Maddie and Ben exchanged vows during a beautiful, formal ceremony. The church’s classic architecture and reverent atmosphere provided the perfect setting for such a meaningful moment. As Maddie walked down the aisle and Ben saw her for the first time, the emotion in the room was undeniable. Their ceremony was heartfelt, elegant, and deeply rooted in tradition with moments where everything else fades away and the focus is simply on the commitment being made.
After the ceremony, Maddie and Ben were absolute troopers while braving warm summer temperatures for a brief and efficient stop at the Cleveland Museum of Art and nearby Wade Lagoon. The result? Fun, relaxed, and romantic portraits capturing their personalities and connection. Despite the heat, they embraced the moment while laughing, strolling, and enjoying a little quiet time together before the reception. The combination of grand museum architecture and the soft, natural beauty of Wade Lagoon is always stunning, and it was the perfect backdrop for this part of their day.
The celebration continued back at the Cleveland Downtown Marriott, where the St. Clair Ballroom was transformed into a classy and energetic reception space. From the moment guests entered, the room buzzed with excitement. Heartfelt toasts brought laughter and happy tears, while the dance floor stayed packed well into the evening. Maddie and Ben’s joy was contagious. Every smile, embrace, and dance move reflected how much they were soaking in every moment of their wedding day.
One of many meaningful parts of this wedding for me was seeing familiar faces. I had the honor of photographing Maddie’s sister Katie’s wedding a few years ago, and being welcomed back to document another chapter for their family meant so much. Also special was seeing a few other couples in attendance whose weddings I’ve photographed over the years. Moments like that are a reminder of why I love what I do.
